BRITISH HIGH COMMISSION DELEGATION PAYS FAMILIARISATION VISIT TO GAFCSC

A three-member delegation from the British High Commission, comprising the outgoing British Defence Attaché, Naval Commander Richard Walters, the incoming Defence Attache Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Nick Wood and the Policy Officer, Miss Jessica Abedi odai has paid a familiarization visit to the Commandant of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) on Wednesday 21 January 2026 at Teshie, Otu Barracks.

The purpose of the visit was to formally introduce the incoming Defence Attaché to the Commandant of the College and to acquaint him with the roles, mandate and operational activities of the institution. The visit also served to reinforce the enduring defence and military co-operation between Ghana and the United Kingdom.

Welcoming the delegation, the Commandant of GAFCSC, Major General (Maj Gen) Jackson Wonje, expressed his appreciation for the visit and provided a brief historical overview of the college. He noted that, the institution was established in the year 1963 and is commemorating its Golden jubilee this year, marking 50 years of excellence and distinguished service in professional military education. Maj Gen Wonje stated that, the college operates two divisions, the junior and senior division which run their respective courses concurrently.

He further commended the British High Commission for their continuous support, particularly in sponsoring some allied students which has contributed significantly to the colleges international reputation.

In his remarks, the outgoing Defence Attache, Naval Commander Richard Walters introduces his successor and reaffirmed the strong bilateral relationship between Ghana and the United Kingdom. He commended GAFCSC for its dedication and professionalism in training both nationally and internationally. The incoming Deffence Attache Lt Col Nick Wood, expressed his profound gratitude for the warm reception and assured the Commandant of his commitment to deepening the existing collaboration between the two countries.
