The Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC), Senior Command and Staff Course (SCSC) 47, embarked on an educational study tour to Nigeria from Monday, 10 May to Friday, 15 May 2026.
The study tour, dubbed "Africa's Defence Industrial Base: Constraints and Progress," aimed at assessing Nigeria's defence industrial development and broader security environment.
The team visited the Nigeria Armed Forces in Abuja, the Federal Capital of Nigeria.
The GAFCSC delegation comprised 10 Directing and Faculty Staff members and 18 students of SCSC, was led by the GAFCSC Director of Research and Development, Colonel (Col) Fifi Deegbe.

Upon arrival, the team was received by representatives of the Nigerian Armed Forces and officials of the Ghana High Commission in Abuja. The team later participated in an orientation programme which covered security dynamics, cultural considerations, and key national institutions.
The team visited the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) in Jaji and the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) in Kaduna, where they received presentations on military education, aerospace technology, and technical manpower development.
The team also visited the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) and the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), where discussions focused on indigenous defence production, technology transfer initiatives, and military innovations.

As part of the tour, the team also visited the Ministry of Defence, Defence Headquarters, Army Headquarters, Naval Headquarters, and Air Force Headquarters in Abuja, where they gained valuable insights into Nigeria's national defence architecture, force modernisation efforts, and operational commitments.
The delegation visited the Ghana High Commission in Abuja to discuss Ghana-Nigeria bilateral relations and regional security cooperation within ECOWAS. The team proceeded to the Nigerian Naval Dockyard in Lagos, where participants observed Nigeria's naval maintenance and maritime support capabilities.
The team returned to Ghana on Friday 15 May, 2026.
