
JSC 83 WRAPS UP INTERNAL SECURITY OPERATIONS COURSE WITH EXERCISE OMBUDSMAN
The Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) Junior Staff Course (JSC) 83 successfully ended its Internal Security Operations Course with Exercise OMBUDSMAN.
This exercise was the practical culmination of a two-week internal security and counter-insurgency package designed to equip participants comprising military officers from Ghana and other African countries as well as sister security agencies with the knowledge and skills to manage internal security operations and engage effectively with the media at the command level.
The Course which ended with the exercise aimed at preparing participants for the restoration and maintenance of law and order during Internal Security and Counter-Insurgency (IS/COIN) operations, particularly within urban environments.
The objectives were to enhance students’ capabilities in staff duties and procedures, consolidate knowledge gained from previous studies and exercises and provide practical training in establishing joint headquarters.
Ex OMBUDSMAN is a one-sided, telephone-based simulation exercise focused on internal security operations. It began with students planning and setting up an exercise headquarters simulating a Joint Headquarters at the command level. Participants were tasked with executing staff duties across a range of internal security and counter-insurgency scenarios.
The exercise had the military collaborating with various Ghanaian security agencies, including the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Narcotics Control Commission, National Security Secretariat and the National Investigation Bureau, providing a comprehensive and realistic training experience in internal security operations.
