
MAJ GEN ESSIEN BOWS OUT GRACEFULLY
Major General (Maj Gen) Matthew Essien, Commandant of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) has gracefully bowed out on Friday, 16 May 2025 in a ceremony held at the college’s headquarters in Teshie.
Maj Gen Essien formally handed over command to Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Jackson Wonje. The occasion marked a key leadership transition within the Ghana Armed Forces and reaffirmed the college's unwavering commitment to its core mission of training GAF officers and allied students from African countries in command and staff duties.
Delivering his farewell address, Maj Gen Essien expressed deep appreciation to the military high command and the staff of GAFCSC for their steadfast support. Reflecting on his time in office, he emphasized the significant progress made in enhancing the college’s infrastructure and facilities, which aimed at fostering a more conducive environment for learning, research, and efficient administration.
He highlighted the substantial progress made in the overall advancement of the college, noting that his central focus had been on cultivating a culture of continuous improvement and academic excellence. He expressed confidence that these efforts would serve as a lasting foundation for future generations of leaders and scholars.
Maj Gen Essien conveyed his best wishes to his successor Brig Gen Jackson Wonje and expressed confidence in his ability to steer GAFCSC successfully and advance the college’s mission. He urged all to continue to uphold the proud legacy of GAFCSC and stay committed to excellence, remain united in purpose, and never stop striving for the highest standards of military education and leadership.
Maj Gen Essien before his pulling out ceremony together with Mr Rabea Hassan Bourji, the General Manager of Multipac Ghana Limited also commissioned the renovated kitchen of the Fletcher Mess. This was his last major renovation project in the college. The project was proudly sponsored by Perla Mineral Water, a subsidiary of Multipac Company Limited.
