GAFCSC SCSC 47 COMMENCES EXERCISE GYATA BA

The Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC), Senior Command and Staff Course (SCSC) 47, has commenced Exercise GYATA BA, a two-day Multi-Domain Operations exercise, from Thursday 4 June to Friday 5 June 2026 in the College syndicate rooms.

The exercise is designed to test participants' ability to operate effectively in a complex and contested multi-domain environment while applying contemporary concepts of warfare and operational planning.

Participants were organised into various syndicates and assigned key command and staff appointments within a fictional scenario involving the Republic of Arcadia. The syndicates represented the Operation Northern Sentinel Maritime Component Headquarters, Joint Task Force Cyber Component Headquarters, as well as the Air and Land Components. The scenario centred on escalating tensions between Arcadia and its neighbouring state, Cerania, requiring participants to respond to hybrid threats, territorial disputes and challenges to national sovereignty through integrated multi-domain operations.

The exercise seeks to assess students' understanding of Multi-Domain Operations and Future Warfare by requiring them to react to scenario injects and conduct operational estimates on evolving situations. Key focus areas include evaluating command and control structures, leveraging technology for real-time decision-making, exploring information warfare and cyberspace operations, enhancing joint force interoperability, and developing effective strategies for countering hybrid threats. Participants are also expected to produce critical operational staff products while applying knowledge acquired throughout the course.

The Assistant Commandant of GAFCSC, Brigadier General Kwao-Addotey, accompanied by the Chief Instructor (Joint Service), Colonel Acquah, other Chief Instructors and Directing Staffs, visited the syndicates to observe activities and interact with participants. The senior officers assessed the students' understanding of the exercise objectives and operational concepts while reinforcing key lessons in planning, coordination and execution. The exercise reaffirms the College's commitment to preparing future military leaders for command and staff responsibilities in increasingly complex and dynamic security environments.
