GAFCSC HOLDS GRADUATION CEREMONY FOR JSC 85

The Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC), has held a graduation ceremony for Junior Staff Course (JSC) 85 at Hamidu Hall, Otu Barracks, Teshie on Friday 19 June 2026.

The graduates comprised 46 officers from the Ghana Army, 11 from the Ghana Navy, 9 from the Ghana Air Force and 8 allied officers from Nigeria, The Gambia, Niger and Burkina Faso. The graduation marked the successful completion of a rigorous 20-week programme designed to enhance the leadership, analytical and communication skills of junior-level officers and prepare them for command and staff responsibilities.

The course, which commenced on 30 January 2026, was conducted in two academic terms and integrated with a Post Graduate Diploma in Defence and Security Studies. Participants underwent intensive training in staff work, leadership, military operations, intelligence, logistics, joint and combined doctrine, as well as defence and security studies. The programme also featured an Environmental Study Tour to the Eastern Region, providing students with practical exposure to socio-economic and security-related issues and enriching their understanding of contemporary national development challenges.

Delivering the keynote address, the Guest of Honour, Brigadier General(Brig Gen) Adjetey Annan (Rtd), congratulated the graduands on the successful completion of the course and described the occasion as a significant milestone in their military careers. He noted that the programme had broadened their professional outlook through lectures, seminars and practical exercises delivered by experienced military officers, academics and experts from various institutions. He expressed confidence that the knowledge and skills acquired would enable the officers to effectively manage the multidimensional security challenges confronting their respective countries.

Brig Gen Annan further urged the graduands to apply the knowledge gained with professionalism, discipline, integrity and dedication. He encouraged them to remain proactive, develop problem-solving skills and demonstrate exemplary leadership in future appointments. He also commended the College for its continued contribution to professional military education and praised the participation of allied officers as a testament to the strong cooperation among African armed forces.

Awards were presented to officers who distinguished themselves during the course, with Captain EY Babilah of the Ghana Army adjudged the Overall Best Student, Major FA Anim receiving the Best Assistant Commandant's Paper Award, Captain OG Oliver of the Nigerian Army named Best Allied Student, while Major JE Mozu of the Ghana Army received the prestigious Everard Award.
